This fresh blueberry mojito is the perfect summer refreshment. It’s easy to make, perfectly sweet, and made with just fresh blueberries, lime, mint, white rum and a touch of honey.
Summer is on its way and these fresh blueberry mojitos have been calling my name. They’re just like the classic mojito, only with fresh blueberries muddled into the lime juice and mint to create a really refreshing summertime drink. Though to be honest, you can drink this all year round!
Mojitos are a traditional Cuban drink, usually made with mint, lime, rum, simple syrup and club soda. This homemade recipe is made with just 6 key ingredients- white rum, lime juice, mint, blueberries, simple syrup, and sparkling water.
I like to serve these with some fresh Pico de Gallo, a large pasta salad, and maybe even some crispy fish tacos!
You can easily make this recipe in advance, just wait to pour it over ice and add the club soda until you’re ready to serve. You don’t want it to get watered down!
How to make a mojito
Make simple syrup. To a small pot on the stove, add 1/4 cup of honey plus 1/4 cup of water and heat until the honey dissolves. You only need 1 tablespoon of this for 1 serving, so reserve the rest in the fridge, it’ll keep for up to 5 days. Set aside to cool.
Muddle. Add the mint leaves, blueberries and lime juice to the bottom of a glass. Use a wooden spoon or cocktail muddler to mash, or muddle, the blueberries and mint leaves for about 30 seconds. (see notes if you prefer a smooth texture with no blueberry/mint pieces)
Combine. Add the simple syrup once cooled, plus the rum stir to combine.
Serve. Top with ice and fill the rest of the glass with sparkling water, club soda or seltzer. Serve with extra blueberries, lime wedges and mint leaves if desired. Enjoy!
Serve a crowd!
This recipe makes one serving, if you want to make a pitcher for a crowd, hover your mouse over the “1” in the serving section (in the recipe card) to drag and scale for the number of servings you want. Follow all of the same steps, but make in a pitcher instead of individual glasses.
Frequently asked questions
What alcohol is best for mojitos?
Mojitos traditionally use rum, but you can get away with using vodka if that’s all you have! The most important thing is that you use white rum, not dark rum, for these blueberry mojitos.
Aside from that, really anything goes! You don’t need anything fancy or expensive, just a good quality white rum is perfect.
Can I make it skinny?
As skinny blueberry mojito, or a skinny anything, is essentially a cocktail without the added sugar, in this case honey. You can definitely omit the sugar or use something like monk fruit or stevia instead. Keep in mind this will change the flavor a bit!
What other flavors can I make?
This recipe is incredibly versatile, so feel free to use blackberries in place of blueberries, add fresh basil, lemon, lavender, maple syrup instead of honey. Whatever you like! Just follow the same rough ratios to keep the flavor in check.
