These juicy air fryer turkey burgers are bursting with flavor and so easy to make. They’re freezer friendly, perfect for meal prep, gluten free, dairy free and totally customizable. Ready in under 30 minutes!
I’ve been obsessed with my air fryer lately and these air fryer turkey burgers are becoming a weekly staple.
They’re gluten free, egg free, so easy to make and ready in about 20 minutes. They pack over 25 grams of protein per serving and are made with healthy, simple ingredients you probably already have on hand.
If you want just a regular gluten free burger, feel free to use ground beef in place of turkey!
These burgers are perfect to meal prep for the week or if you just need a quick dinner for the family. If you love this recipe, try my gluten free chicken tenders or air fryer tilapia next.
How to make air fryer turkey burgers
Preheat the air fryer to 400 Fahrenheit.
Using a large grater, grate the onion until you have about 2-3 tablespoons worth. The grated onion adds more juiciness and does not leave large chunks in the burger.
Add to a bowl with all burger ingredients and mix well to combine.
Spray your air fryer basket and use a large cookie scoop or your hands to make 4 even sized patties.
They tend to puff up a bit in the air fryer, so try to make them pretty flat. Place in your air fryer basket, keeping each burger apart from the others.
Air fry for 8-12 minutes (depending on your air fryer/how thick the patties are), flipping half way, until the center is fully cooked.
Serve on your gluten free buns with lettuce, tomato, onion, hummus and cheese if desired. Enjoy!
Serving suggestions
CLASSIC. Serve these gluten free air fryer turkey burgers very classic with cheddar or American cheese, lettuce, tomato and onion. Can’t go wrong with fries, roasted potatoes or a side salad!
ASIAN. Omit the ketchup in the burger and replace with 1 tablespoon of soy sauce. Top the burgers with my teriyaki sauce and serve with lettuce and red onion.
SALAD. I love to chop up a burger and toss it in a salad with lettuce, tomato, shredded carrots and my caesar dressing.
PASTA. Ok, maybe this seems weird, but my pasta obsessed self loves it. It’s perfect if you have the burgers cooked and some leftover pasta already ready. Just toss together with some sauce and parmesan and you’re good to go.
How to store and freeze
Once prepared, these air fryer turkey burgers will keep in the fridge for about 3-4 days. Let them cool completely, then store in an air tight container.
If you’re serving them in the a salad, you can just chop them up cold, but I otherwise like to reheat them either on the stove or in the oven or air fryer.
These burgers are also freezer friendly! Let them cool completely, then transfer to a freezer safe bag for up to 2 months. Reheat in the air fryer or oven until warm through the center and enjoy!
You can freeze the burgers before cooking as well. Just wrap the patties in plastic wrap and freeze for up to 2 months. Cook for about 5 extra minutes to account for the burgers being frozen.
Frequently asked questions
Can I make gluten free burgers?
Yes, these burgers are already gluten free if you just use gluten free breadcrumbs! My favorite gluten free hamburger buns are from Trader Joe’s.
How long do you cook turkey burgers in an air fryer?
It depends on exactly how thick you make your burgers, but it will take about 8-12 minutes. You will place the raw burger right in the basket after lightly spraying with oil.
I recommend flipping them halfway through, but if you forget, it’s not a huge deal since air fryers are very good at cooking evenly.
Can I add other seasonings?
Yes! I kept these burgers very classic and simple so you can easily add other herbs, spices or sauces if you prefer.
Some chipotle seasoning, paprika, dried or fresh herbs like cilantro, buffalo sauce, or whatever else you like!
Note: If you want to make these into cheeseburgers, I suggest adding the cheese after the burgers have cooked then close the basket for a few minutes without running the air fryer. The cheese will melt on your burger while it sits in the warm air fryer without overcooking the burger.
